5.6 I can’t go to Mass - Can I still receive God’s sacramental grace?
Currently in many places struck by the corona virus it is not possible or very unwise to attend Mass. So what is the alternative? On the one hand, the Sacrament of the Eucharist cannot be replaced by anything, as there is nothing like it. On the other hand, just as a priest can celebrate Mass for your intentions without your presence, you can also connect spiritually to Jesus’ Eucharistic presence, 'from a distance’ so to say.
We call this spiritual Communion: you express your ardent desire to receive Jesus, to be with him as he wants to be with you in the Sacrament of the Eucharist. It can be very helpful to “attend” a real-time emission of Mass on internet, television, or radio. There is no set formula for making a spiritual Communion: your desire to receive Jesus in your life and heart is the most important to receive his grace.
